The Clinical Skills Training Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of University of South China was officially established in 2011. In 2013, it was designated as the NationalHunan Provincial Off-Campus Practice Base for University Students — the Comprehensive Clinical Skills Training Center of the University of South China.

The center is dividedtwo zones. Zone 1 is located in Areas BC on the 12th floor of the Outpatient Building,includes training rooms, a teleconference room, a simulated ICU, a laparoscopic training base, multimedia classrooms, a model storage room, an e-reading room, a library,other instructional facilities. Zone 2 occupies the 4th5th floors of the Innovation Buildinghouses an OSCE assessment center, smart classrooms, a waiting area,a computer-based testing center. Covering a total area of 3,000 m² with a total investment of nearly RMB 30 million, the center is equipped with over 450 instrumentsdevicessupports more than 90 training programs.

Over the past decade, the center has continuously implemented new teaching philosophiesactively promoted educational reforms. Focusing on three key areas, i.e. curriculum integration, clinical faculty development,educational resource enhancement, it has established a “sequentially integrated, precision-targeted,three-dimensional” clinical practice teaching system. Utilizing diverse, intuitive,novel methodologies, the center provides students with early exposure to clinical education. Advanced teaching modelstechniques, such as high-fidelity simulators, standardized patients,surgical animal experiments, are employed to explore new teaching models like “scenario simulation teaching”“team simulation”. The faculty team has edited one Hunan Provincial Outstanding Graduate Textbook, developed one online MOOC course,garnered one provincial-level first prize for teaching achievements, one university-level second prize,one first prize from Hengyang Medical School. The centers flagship course “Clinical Skills” has won one second prize in the Hunan Provincial College Teachers IdeologicalPolitical Teaching Competitiontwo second prizes in the Hunan Provincial Informatization Teaching Competition.

Since 2011, the center has organized teams to participate in various tiers of the National Clinical Skills Competition for Medical Students,has developed a scientific, mature,highly effective “First Affiliated Hospital of University of South China” training philosophysystem. Over the years, the teams have achieved outstanding results, including one national grand prize, one national second prize, four regional first prizes,ten university-level grand prizes.
